The New Art of Living
The universe provides. Here I am, declaring to the void that I am committed to learning to be great with money, and my friend Conor calls me asking if I'd be interested in some free education about building and managing wealth. Yes. Yes, I'm interested.
Conor has started working with Wealth Builders. They offer a program called The New Art of Living. It's based on three philosophies.
First, they encourage "multi-handed income", which is income based on implementing a system rather than working as a single person trading hours for money. Some examples are earning money from investments, earning royalties, or owning a business where a system can be implemented and run without you being there to do it. I hear it as creating that elusive passive income stream we all fantasize about. For me, I see this kind of opportunity in creating digital or print-on-demand products, collecting rent from properties, perhaps starting another business someday, or some of the Multi-Level Marketing companies my friends do. The idea is that you set up a revenue stream that continues to generate income without you.
Secondly, They suggest "10%, three rules, three goals". That means that you should save at least 10% of your net income. Then the three rules of money are understanding compounding interest, understanding how to minimize risk, and understanding how to decrease your tax burden.
I decided to do my best to implement the 10% rule right away. In one of their videos, a man said, "Poor people spend their money and invest what's left. Rich people invest their money and spend what's left." That landed for me. I recently earned about $100 from some mending I did for a neighbor, so I invested $10. I asked ChatGPT for advice on apps for investing small amounts of money. It suggested Acorns or RobinHood, with the latter having the lowest fees. So I hopped on RobinHood and purchased $10 of Microsoft stock. Bonus: If you are interested in trying that app, using my link will give us both $5.

The rules about managing risk and taxes seem to be mostly applied with investing tools like tax-free retirement accounts. I have an IRA, though with nothing in it at the moment after my business failure wiped me out. I also have a 529 account to save for my daughter for college. I'm excited to hear more about investment tools. This is exactly what I've been looking to learn. The universe is amazing!
The final tenet of their philosophy is about self improvement. They offer education to create abundance of money, freedom of time, and happiness. Being rich and being so rich that you also have time does not guarantee happiness. The New Art of Living emphasizes that happiness comes from developing yourself, accomplishment, and contributing to others. It sounds like a lot of their people are into Tony Robbins. I've been doing Landmark for eight years now, and I really love their personal development classes. Landmark is definitely cheaper than Tony Robbins. And Landmark also encourages people to contribute to their communities. The class I've been taking for the last few years has you create a project every quarter and coaches you through managing a team to accomplish your project. That's actually how I started To The Mountain Shuttle. I think my most successful legacy from this class is the annual bike ride I started to raise funds for the National ALS Association in memory of my friend who died from it.
So. The New Art of Living. I'm amazed at the timing of this opportunity Conor is offering me. So far it's interesting and aligned with what's already important to me. I'll keep you updated! Here's a picture of my morning with a warm cup of coffee on a beautiful fall day. Hope you are well!
